| superior | more towards the head or above another structure |
| cephalic | pertaining to the head |
| inferior | towards the feet or below |
| caudal | pertaining to the tail |
| anterior | body parts in front of the body |
| ventral | body parts in front of the body towards the belly |
| posterior | body parts on the back of the body |
| dorsal | body parts on the back of the body |
| medial | body parts close to the midline |
| lateral | body parts away from the midline, to the side |
| proximal | body parts close |
| distal | body parts away |
| apex | tip of summit of an organ |
| base | bottom or lower part of your organ |
| superficial | more towards the surface of the body |
| deep | further away from the surface of the body |
| supine | body horizontal facing up (laying on back) |
| prone | body horizontal spine is up (laying on stomach) |
