What is a similarity between living and nonliving things? Made of atoms
What is different about a virus compared to a living organism? They cant use energy, cannot reproduce, not made of cells
How does a hypothesis compare to a theory? A theory is a result of repeated testing and support of a series of hypotheses. Ex: Cell theory

List steps of scientific method Observations, ask a question or pose a problem, background research, form.a hypothesis, conduct experiments, collect data and possibly share data, analyze data to accept or reject hypotheses, conclusion related to the scientific concepts
What does a scientist do if their hypothesis is incorrect? Reject Hypotheses and do not try to make it correct. Check for errors, form a new hypothesis and experiment
How many variables are tested at a time in a controlled scientific experiment 1; make sure that all other possible variables are kept constant
Define independent variables, give an example The thing being tested (manipulated) Ex: temp in yeast catalyst lab X-AXIS
Define dependent variables, give an example The variable that relies on the independent variable and is measured. Ex: Height of bubbles. Y-AXIS
DRY MIX (Dependent, Responding, y-axis) (Manipulated, Independent, X-axis)
What is the purpose of the control group? Give an example To see what happens when the independent variable is not applied. Ex; Water a plant with no fertilizer
Quantative Data Numbers, temp reading
Qualitative Data No numerical data/no numbers, color change
What tool is used to measure liquids in the metric system? Graduated Cylinder
What is used to find the mass of an object in the metric system? Balance
