Decomposers Unit Vocabulary

decomposer an organism that breaks down dead or decaying plant and animal materials
fungi plant-like organisms that get energy from other organisms which may be living or dead
bacteria a type of single cell organism
producer an organism that uses energy from the Sun to make its own food
consumer an organism that cannot make its own food
food chain the path that energy and nutrients follow among living things in an ecosystem
food web shows how food chains in an ecosystem are overlapped or linked
energy flow the movement of energy from one organism to another in a food chain or food web
