LAB 7 TERMS

TermDefinition
Confidence Interval the range of values within which you are confident the actual mean lies
Standard Deviation describes the variability in the data
Alpha the significance level, the probability that the real mean lies outside the confidence interval
T-Test a test that strengthens a conclusion that the means of two groups are really different from each other (probability that there is no real difference between the groups)
Lower or Higher T-Test is better? a lower t-test is better
One-Tail Test appropriate if our hypothesis states that one group is larger or smaller than the other
Two-Tail Test if it is predicted that the means of the two groups would be different
Type 1 for paired samples, like before and after testing. Ex. comparing people before and after taking vitamin C
Type 2 for non-paired samples, though the variance is known
Type 3 for non-paired samples, though the variance is unknown
Law of Large Number a large number of items chosen at random from a population are bound, on average, to have the characteristics of the population
