Respiration and Excretion

TermDefinition
Capillary tiny blood vessels where diffusion occurs between cells and the blood
Alveoli tiny air sacs in the lungs where diffusion occurs between the lungs and the blood
Trachea the windpipe- pathway from mouth/nose to lungs
Bronchi/Bronchus Two airway branches off the trachea; sends air to each lung
Bronchioles Tiny airway branches off the bronchi
Diaphragm Organ that moves up when we breath out and moves down when we breathe in
Kidney organ that filters our blood
Ureter carries urine from kidney to bladder
Bladder stores urine until urination occurs
Urethra where urine exits the body
Lung organ that performs gas exchange
Excretion the removal of metabolic waste (waste made in the cells)-- NOT the removal of undigested food!
Elimination/Egestion the removal of undigested food
Metabolism all the chemical reactions that happen in a cell
Metabolic waste waste made in our cells, like carbon dioxide, urea, and extra water
Urea a waste made from breaking down proteins; makes up a large portion of our sweat and urine
Negative feedback loop when the product of a reaction sends feeback to the body that leads to a decrease in that reaction
