| Term | Definition |

| Coriolis effect | circulating air is deflected toward the right in the Northern Hemisphere and toward the left in the Southern Hemisphere. |
| Trade Winds | winds that reliably blow east to west just north and south of the equator. |
| Prevailing westerlies | prevailing winds from the west toward the east in the middle latitudes between 30 and 60 degrees latitude. |
| Polar easterlies | dry and cold prevailing winds that blow from the east. |
| Land breeze | a breeze blowing usually at night toward the sea from the more rapidly cooling land. |
| Sea breeze | a breeze blowing toward the land from the sea, especially during the day owing to the relative warmth of the land. |
| barometer | A weather instrument that measures air pressure |
| Air pressure | the weight of air pushing on everything around it. |
| Low Pressure | A mass of warm moist air that bring stormy weather caused by a drop in air pressure followed by colder weather. |
| EL Nino | a warming of the ocean surface, or above-average sea surface temperatures, in the central and eastern tropical Pacific Ocean. |
