Winds
| Term | Definition |

| Coriolis Effect | Because the Earth rotates on its axis, circulating air is deflected toward the right in the Northern Hemisphere and toward the left in the Southern Hemisphere. |
| Trade Winds | The trade winds are winds that reliably blow east to west just north and south of the equator. |
| Prevailing Westerlies | Prevailing winds from the west toward the east in the middle latitudes between 30 and 60 degrees latitude. |
| Polar Easterlies | Dry, cold prevailing winds that blow from the east. |
| Land Breeze | A breeze blowing toward the sea from the land, especially at night, owing to the relative warmth of the sea. |
| Sea Breeze | A breeze blowing toward the land from the sea, especially during the day owing to the relative warmth of the land. |
