| Term | Definition |

| Wind | he perceptible natural movement of the air, especially in the form of a current of air blowing from a particular direction. |
| Anemometer | an instrument that measures wind speed and wind pressure. |
| Wind Vane | a revolving pointer to show the direction of the wind, typically mounted on top of a building. |
| Coriolis Effect | Because the Earth rotates on its axis, circulating air is deflected toward the right in the Northern Hemisphere and toward the left in the Southern Hemisphere. |
| Trade Winds | The trade winds are winds that reliably blow east to west just north and south of the equator. |
| Prevailing Westerlies | prevailing winds from the west toward the east in the middle latitudes between 30 and 60 degrees latitude. |
| Polar Easterlies | Polar easterlies are dry, cold prevailing winds that blow from the east. |
| Land Breeze | a local wind system characterized by a flow from land to water late at night. |
| Sea Breeze | a breeze blowing toward the land from the sea, especially during the day owing to the relative warmth of the land. |
| El nino | a warming of the ocean surface, or above-average sea surface temperatures, in the central and eastern tropical Pacific Ocean. |
