DNA fingerprinting The analysis of DNA from samples of body tissues or fluids in order to identify individuals.
plasmid small, circular piece of DNA located in the cytoplasm of many bacteria
Recombinant DNA DNA produced by combining DNA from different sources
genetic engineering A technology that includes the process of manipulating or altering the genetic material of a cell resulting in desirable functions or outcomes that would not occur naturally.
transgenic term used to refer to an organism that contains genes from other organisms
bioethics the study of ethical issues related to DNA technology
genetic screening process of testing DNA to determine the chance a person has, or might pass on, a genetic disorder
gene therapy The process of changing a gene to treat a medical disease or disorder. An absent or faulty gene is replaced by a normal working gene.
