What is earth science? Earth science is the scientific study of the earth and the universe around it.
What is Geology? Geology is the scientific study of the origin, history, and structure of Earth and the process that shapes it.
What is Oceanography? Oceanography is the study of the ocean.
What is Meteorology? Meteorology is the study of the Earth's atmosphere, especially in relation to weather and climate.
What is Astronomy? Astronomy is the scientific study of the universe.
What is observation? Observation is the process of obtaining information by using senses.
A hypothesis is. . . A hypothesis is a testable idea that leads to scientific investigation.
How can an independent variable be used in an experiment? In an experiment, an independent variable can be used as a factor that is deliberately manipulated.
What is a theory? A theory is a system of ideas that explains many related observations and is supported by a large body of evidence acquired through scientific investigation.
Tell me the six layer zones of Earth in order. Crust, lithosphere, asthenosphere, mesosphere, outer core, inner core.
Define system. A system is an organized group of related objects or components that interact to create a whole.
Autotrophs and heterotrophs are opposites what do each of them do? An autotroph gets it's energy by making food. And heterotroph gets energy from other living things.
Chemo means chemical and photo means light. What do photoautotrophs do? Photoautotrophs make their food from light.
What is a meridian? A meridian is a semicircle that runs from pole to pole.
What is Longitude? Longitude is the angular distance, measured in degrees, east or west of the prime meridian.
What does GPS stand for? GPS stands for Global Positioning System.
What is latitude? Latitude is the angular distance north or south of the equator.
What's a cartographer? A cartographer is a scientist who makes maps.
Define geologic map. A geologic map is a map that shows the distribution of geologic features.
What's a soil map? A soil map records the properties of soil.
What's matter? Matter is anything that takes up space and has mass.
What are the charges of electrons, protons, and neutrons. Electrons have a negative charge. Protons have a positive charge. Neutrons have no charge.
What is a crystal? A crystal is a solid whose atoms, ions, or molecules are arranged in a regular, repeating pattern.
What can you use to identify a mineral? To identify a mineral you can use color, streak, luster, cleavage, fracture, or hardness.
Name six types of crystal shapes. Six types of crystal shapes include isometric, orthorhombic, tetragonal, hexagonal, monoclinic, and triclinic.
