Indication First line therapy of active tuberculosis
Action Inhibits myobacterial cell wall synthesis and interferes with metabolism
Caution With history of liver damage, renal impairment, malnourished patients
Adverse reactions psychosis, seizures, Visual distrubances, Drug induced hepatitis, nausea, vomiting, rashes, blood dyscrasias, peripheral neuropathy
Labs hepatic function should be evaluated prior to and monthly througout therapy,
Toxicity and overdose treatment with pyridoxine (vit B)
PO May be given with food or antacids if GI irritation occurs
pyridoxine may be used concurrently to prevent neuropathy
