Reproduction unit

Asexual/Mitosis Quiz

TermDefinition
Asexual reproduction one parent creates two indentical offspring and the same amount of DNA
Sexual reproduction two parents create offspring that are similar but different from the parents.
Centrioles pull apart chromosomes during Anaphase (the things at the north and south poles)
Mitosis division of cells creating identical copies.
Interphase most of the cell cycle happens in interphase, its the longest portion of it, cells grow and duplicate DNA and organelles
Prophase nucleus disappears, chromosomes wind up
Metaphase chromosomes line up in the middle, spindle apparatus and centrioles appear and attach to chromosomes.
Anaphase chromosomes separate to form sister chromatids, they are pulled toward the centrioles on opposite ends
Telophase nucleus starts to reappear , chromosomes start to unwind, cytoplasm starts to separate (looks like a telephone)
Cytokiniss cytoplasm seperates by forming a cleavage furrow in animal cells and a cell plate in plant cells.
Differentiation Cells speacialize to form different tissues for different functions
Apoptosis controlled cell death
Ccncer disorder where body cells lose the ability to control cell growth
mitosis Interphase, prophase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase
Why would it be a problem if all of the cells were the exact replica of each other? This could be a problem because if everything is copied and cells are diseased, many cells will have that disease too.
why do multicellular celled organisms go through mitosis Grow, heal, and replace old cells
