Earth's Changes

coal A solid energy resource that forms from ancient PLANTS over millions of years.
conservation The practice of using resources wisely.
decomposition The breaking down of plant and animal remains by decomposers.
fossil fuel A source of energy that started forming millions of years ago from the remains of plants and microorganisms.
natural gas A gaseous energy resource that forms from microorganisms over million of years.,
nonrenewable resources A resource that cannot be replenished or replaced quickly or easily.
oil A liquid energy resource that forms from microorganisms over millions of years.
petroleum A name given to crude oil and refined oil.
canyon V-shaped Valley. A landform cut from the Earth by erosion.
delta A landform created at the mouth of a river from the deposition of sediment.
frost wedging A types of weathering that occurs when water trapped in crack and pores of rocks repeatedly freezes and melts.
glacier A large mass of ice that slowly moves down mountains and valleys.
sand dune A large hill or mound of sand formed by wind deposition.
sediment Small pieces of weathered rock.
u-shaped valley A landform created by the weathering and erosion of rock as a glacier moves down a mountain.
v-shaped valley Canyon. A narrow landform with steep sides formed by river erosion.
weathering The breaking down of larger rocks into smaller pieces called sediment.
erosion The movement of sediment from one place to another by wind, water, and ice.
deposition The dropping of sediment in a new location by wind, water, or ice.
cementation The process of minerals hardening around sediment.
compaction The squeezing together of rock layers due to pressure.
sedimentary rock A type of rock formed from layers of sediment that is compacted and cemented over time.
