shock

decompensated shock late stage of shock when BP is falling
distributive shock when there us a dilation of small arterioles/venules
hypothermia condition where body temp is below 95 degrees
neurogenic shock circulatory failure caused by paralysis of nerves that control the size of the blood vessels, leading to widespread of dilation caused by spinal cord injuries
hypovolemic shock caused by fluid or blood loss
myocardial contractility ability of the heart muscle to contract
obstructive shock occurs when there is a block to blood flow in the heart of vessels causing insufficient blood supply
perfusion the flow of blood through the body tissues and vessels
pericardial effusion collection of fluid between the pericardial sac and myocardium
preload the preconcentration pressure in the heart as the volume of blood builds up
psychogenic shock caused by sudden temporary reduction in blood supply to the brain that causes syncope
pulmonary embolism a blood clot that breaks off from a large vein and travels to blood vessels of the lung, causing obstruction of blood flow
pulse pressure the difference between the systolic and diastolic BP
sensitization developing a sensitivity to a substance that initially caused and allergic reaction
septic shock caused by severe infection (usually bacterial)
shock hypoperfusion condition where circulatory system fails to provide sufficient perfusion
sphincters circular muscles that contract/constrict a duct, tube, or opening
syncope fainting
afterload force or resistance against which the heart pumps
anaphylactic shock caused by allergic reaction
aneurysm swelling or enlargement of a part of artery, weakening of the arterial wall
cardiac tamponade compression of the heart as result of buildup of blood or other fluid in pericardial sac, decreases cardiac output
cardiogenic shock caused by low output of blood from the heart, severe complication of AMI
compensated shock early stage of shock, when the body can still compensate for blood loss
