QuestionAnswer
variable any factor, trait, or condition that can exist in differing amounts or types
quantitative any pieces of information that can be displayed using numbers
qualitative multi method in focus, involving an interpretative, naturalistic approach to its subject matter.
Independent variable a variable that stands alone and isn't changed by the other variables you are trying to measure
dependent variable depend on other variables
manipulated variable a factor that is purposefully and specifically changed by the experimenter
responding variable the factor that is measured by the scientist as a result of the effects of the manipulated variable
precise the closeness of two or more measurements to each other
accurate the closeness of a measured value to a standard or known value
valid how accurately a method measures what it is intended to measure
reliable how consistently a method measures something
empirical evidence the information obtained through observation and documentation of certain behavior and patterns or through an experiment.
pseudoscience A system that tries to explain physical phenomena that cannot be proven by the scientific method
results where you report what happened in the experiment
conclusion a statement based on experimental measurements and observations
hypothesis an educated guess as to what will happen during your experiment
constant the part that doesn't change during the experiment
control an element that remains unchanged or unaffected by other variables
