Photosynthesis

QuestionAnswer
What is Photosynthesis? Photosynthesis is the way plants make their own food using light
Why is Photosynthesis so important? When plants photosynthesise they release oxygen which is essential for many living organisms When plants photosynthesise they take in carbon dioxide from the air which prevents the air from reaching a poisonous level
What is needed for plants to carry out photosynthesis? Sunlight Water Carbon dioxide Chlorophyll (green pigment found in plants)
What is the word equation for photosynthesis Chlorophyll Carbon Dioxide+Water-------------------> Oxygen+Glucose Sunlight
How do Plants Photosynthesise? Plants take in carbon dioxide from the air through tiny pores on their leaves called stomata Plants take in water from the soil through their roots Sunlight is absorbed by the chloroplasts in the cells of the leaves of the plant
How do plants photosynthesise? pt2 The green pigment called chlorophyll, in the chloroplasts, allows the carbon dioxide and water to combine to form glucose The energy for the reaction comes from the sun Oxygen is released and is given off as a waste product
Is Photosynthesis A Chemical Process and Why Photosynthesis is a chemical process because the reactants water and carbon dioxide react together to form the new products oxygen and glucose
Is Photosynthesis a Biological Process Photosynthesis is a biological process because it happens in living cells Photosynthesis takes place in the chloroplasts of cells where enzymes that are essential for this process are present
What is the Carbon Cycle The constant recycling of carbon atoms is called the carbon cycle
What is the Importance of photosynthesis in the carbon cycle Photosynthesis is how carbon in the form of carbon dioxide gets fixed (caught up) in compounds such as food and fuel Photosynthesis is vital for keeping the carbon cycle going and therefore keeping life on Earth going too
What Factors affect Photosynthesis The factors affecting photosynthesis are: Carbon dioxide Temperature Light
How Does Carbon Dioxide Affect Photosynthesis If there is a decrease in carbon dioxide the rate of photosynthesis will also decrease as there is less gas taking part in the photosynthesis reactions If there is a increase in carbon dioxide the rate of photosynthesis will also increase
How Does Temperature Affect Photosynthesis All biological processes are controlled by enzymes If the temperature is too low enzyme activity is slow which means the rate of photosynthesis will be slow If the temperature is too high the enzymes will be destroyed so the reaction will stop
How Does Light Affect Photosynthesis If the light intensity is low the rate of photosynthesis will be low due to lack of energy If the light intensity is high the rate of photosynthesis will be high as there is more energy

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
