Biology Scientific study of life
Control Group Group in an experiment that is exposed to the same conditions as the experimental group except for one independent variable
Data Information gathered from observations and experimentation
Dependent Variable Variable that is observed and changes in response to the independent variable; also called the responding variable
Evolve Change over time
Homeostasis Relatively constant internal physical and chemical conditions that organisms maintain
Hypothesis Possible explanation for a set of observations or possible answer to a scientific question
Independent Variable Factor in a controlled experiment that is changed on purpose; also called manipulated variable
Inference A logical interpretation based on prior knowledge and experience
Metabolism The combination of chemical reactions through which an organism builds up or breaks down materials
Metric System System of measurement used in science
Observation Process of noticing or describing events or processes in a careful, orderly way
Organism An individual plant, animal, fungi, or single
Science The study of the natural world through observation and experimentation
Spontaneous Generation The hypothetical process by which living organisms develop from nonliving matter
Stimulus Signal to which an organism responds
