T6.3 Stars and Galaxies
| Term | Definition |

| parallax | a way to determine the distance to nearby stars and other objects |
| star systems | groups of two or more stars |
| binary stars | system of two stars that are gravitationally bound to and in orbit around each other |
| multiple star systems | system of three or more stars orbiting each other |
| exoplanet | a planet revolving around a star outside our own solar system |
| star clusters | many stars loose and disorganized in larger groupings |
| globular clusters | large groupings(possibly more than a million stars) of older stars in a rounded formation |
| galaxy | a group of single stars, star systems, star clusters, dust, and gas bound together by gravity. |
| Spiral Galaxies | have a bulge in the center and arms that spiral outward like pinwheels |
| Elliptical Galaxies | rounded, but may be elongated and slightly flattened |
| Irregular Galaxies | do not have regular shapes |
| Quasars | active, young galaxies with black holes at their glowing center |
