Scientific Inquiry

TermDefinition
Air Resistance The force that acts in the opposite direction to an object moving through the air
Counterexample An example that contradicts a conclusion
Phlogiston Substance once believed to be the reason items burnt
Scientific Method The process of observing, asking questions, and seeking answers through tests and experiments
Observation Allows scientists to collect data
Hypothesis An educationed guess that attemps to explain an observation or answer a question
Theory A hypothesis that has been tested with a significant amount of data
Scientific Law A theory that has been tested by and is consistent with generations of data
Conductivity The resistance of a wire to electricity producing heat and light
Superconductivity The one time belief that if the temperature was lowered enough, there would be no resistance to electricity through a wire
