Virus -A non-living particle dependent on host cells for replication of genetic material.
Human immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) -A retrovirus that invades T-cells attacking the immune system and resulting in Acquired immune Deficiency.
Microorganism -An organism that is too small to be seen with a naked eye.
Bacteria -Microorganisms important as decomposers; widely distributed and can break down just about any type of organic matter.
Fungus -Heterotrophic eukaryotes that reproduce through asexual spores: break down dead materials and can spread disease.
Parasite -Lives in or on another organism (host) and derives nourishment from them, resulting in harm to the host organism.
Host -An organism in which a parasite resides and/or derives nutrients from.
Disease -A disorder in an organism that produces adverse effects and is not a result of physical injury; can be identified by specific signs or symptoms and can affect one or more parts of the organism.
Pathogen -Anything capable of causing infectious diseases.
Epidemic -A widespread infectious disease that affects a single community at a specific time; can become a pandemic, if not contained and stopped.
Pandemic -A widespread infectionus disease that affects a whole country, multiple countries or the whole world; starts as an epidemic that was not contained or stopped.
Antibiotic -A medicine that destroys or stops the growth or spread of microorganisms.
Vaccine -An injection of a killed or weakened pathogen that helps build an organism's immune system against specific diseases.
