amplitude the distance between a crest or trough and the rest postition
wavelength the top of one crest to the top of the next crest or the bottom of one trough to bottom of the next trough
frequency the number of wavelengths that pass a fixed point in one second
hertz (Hz) unit for measuring frequency
reflection when a wave strikes a surface or object and bounces off
echo occurs when sound bounces off a solid surface
refraction the bending of a wave as it moves from one medium into another
diffraction the bending of waves around a barrier
interference the ability of two waves to combine to form a new wave
