| consumers | organisms that get their energy from producers or other consumers |

| limiting factors | resources or environmental conditions that limit the growth or population of organisms |
| competition | the struggle among organisms for the same limited resources |
| host | an animal or plant on which a parasite lives |
| parasite | an organism that lives in or on another organism and benefits by getting nutrients from the organism without giving any benefits in return |
| abiotic factor | a nonliving thing or condition that influences or affects an ecosystem |
| biotic factor | a living thing that influences or affects an ecosystem |
| aquatic ecosystem | an ecosystem in a body of water |
| terrestrial ecosystem | an ecosystem on land |
| ecosystem | all of the living and nonliving things in an area and how they interact |
| population | a group of the same species of organism living in an area together |
| community | a group of different species living in the same area |
| estuary | where the river meets the sea |
