What are the Five Kingdoms of life? -Monera (prokaryotes) -Fungi -Protista -Plants -Animals
Features of Monera - dont have a membrane enclosed nucleus - dont have membrane enclosed organelles such as mitochondria and chloroplast - Mainly small microscopic and single celled organisms - they normally reproduce asexually
Features of Fungi -dont make there own food but absorb it from outside sources -mainly multicellular -composed of thread called hyphae, which combine to form visible fluffy masses called mycellium -cell ( or hyphal) walls are made of a carbohydrate called chitin
Features of Protista - Have a membrane enclosed nucleus - Mainly single celled, but those that contain many cells are simple organisms
Features of Plants - Complex multicellular organisms - Photosynthetic -Cell walls are made of cellulose - Often contain Vacuoles - Can reproduce asexually and sexually - They protect the embryo within the parent plant
Features of Animals - Multicellular organisms that take in food -Dont have cell walls - Have a nervous system and Muscular system - Reproduce sexually - Large eggs that cant move themselves - Small swim that can swim
