DefinitionTerm
bottom 1/2 of the grand staff bass clef
lowers a note by a 1/2 step flat
cancels a flat or sharp natural
connects 2 notes on the same line or space tie
tells you which flats or sharps to play or sing key signature
raises a note by 1/2 step sharp
connects 2 notes on different lines or spaces slur
top 1/2 of the grand staff treble clef
this means to play or sing loud forte
this tells you to put more emphasis or "punch" a note accent
gradually get softer decrescendo
to play or sing a note short and detached staccato
gradually get louder crescendo
5 horizontal lines and spaces staff
tells you to do a section over again repeat sign
a staff divided by bar lines measure
same as 4/4 time common time
tells you that you are at the end of the song double bar
tells which flats or sharps to play or sing key signature
twice as fast as 4/4 cut time
tells how many beats are in each measure and which kind of note gets one beat time signature
tells you to hold on to the note a little longer fermata
