mineral a naturally occurring, inorganic solid that has a crystal structure and a definite chemical composition
Cleavage A mineral's ability to split easily along flat surfaces.
fracture The way a mineral looks when it breaks apart in an irregular way
Luster The way a mineral reflects light
Mineral Hardness the resistance of a mineral to being scratched; it varies from 1-10 on Moh's Scale of hardness; hardness is a result of the atomic bond strength in a mineral's atomic structure
Streak The color of a mineral in powdered form
crystalline structure Atoms must be arranged in an organized, repetitive manner.
Graphite a shiny, black substance that is used in pencils
