Mineral Hardness | the resistance of a mineral to being scratched; it varies from 1-10 on Moh's Scale of hardness; hardness is a result of the atomic bond strength in a mineral's atomic structure |
Streak | The color of a mineral in powdered form |
crystalline structure | Atoms must be arranged in an organized, repetitive manner. |
Graphite | a shiny, black substance that is used in pencils |
Calcite | CaCO3. Mineral that bubbles with acid |
hematite | mineral with red brown streak |
Sulfur | Mineral that smells like eggs. hardness |
Quartz | Most common mineral SiO2 |
Mica | Mineral that flakes into thin sheets |
