solar system sun, planets, and all the other objects that revolve around the sun
Geocentric A model of the universe in which Earth is at the center of the revolving planets and stars.
Heliocentric A model of the solar system in which Earth and the other planets revolve around the sun
terrestrial Rocky planets
Jovian gas giants planets
Rotation The spinning of Earth on its axis
Revolution the movement of one object around another
comet A ball of frozen dust and rock that orbits the sun and has a tail that glows
asteroid a small rocky body orbiting the sun
meteor A streak of light in the sky produced by the burning of a meteoroid in Earth's atmosphere.
Ellipse A elongated circle, or oval shape, the shape of the planets orbit.
Foci the two points inside an ellipse
Foucault Pendulum A device which provides evidence that the earth rotates
Coriolis effect The effect of Earth's rotation on the direction of winds and currents.
Latitude Distance north or south of the equator
Longitude Distance east or west of the prime meridian, measured in degrees
