| nuclear waste | radioactive waste material produced by nuclear power plants |
| Trade-off | a desirable outcome given up to gain another desirable outcome |
| evidence | factual information or data that support or refute your claim |
| Groundwater | the water that is beneath Earth's surface |
| sedimentary rock | a rock that forms from compressed or cemented layers of sediment |
| Aquifer | rock layer that allows groundwater to flow through it |
| Aquitard | Impermeable beds that hinder or prevent groundwater movement |
| natural hazard | A natural event (for example an earthquake, volcanic eruption, tropical storm, flood) that threatens people or has the potential to cause damage, destruction and death. |
| landslide | a slide of a large mass of dirt and rock down a mountain or cliff |
| model | any representation of a system used to help one understand & communicate how it works |
| earthquake | a sudden and violent shaking of the ground, sometimes causing great destruction, as a result of movements within the earth's crust or volcanic action. |
| volcano | A vent or fissure in the Earth's surface through which magma and gases are expelled |
| Magma | Molten rock beneath the earth's surface |
| Lava | Magma that reaches Earth's surface |
