weathering | the process of breaking rocks into smaller pieces. |
deposition | sediment falling and settling on a surface. |
sediment | very small pieces of rock. |
root wedging | a root growing causing rock to break apart. |
fossil | the remains of a plant or animal that lived a very long time ago. |
ice wedging | water freezing and expanding causing rock to break apart. |
basalt | a type of rock formed when thin, fast-moving lava cools; it is usually dark in color. |
lava | liquid rock that flows or explodes from a volcano. |
Ring of Fire | a group of active volcanoes that forms a circle shape around the Pacific Ocean. |
landslides | when rain causes soil and rocks to roll down a mountain. |
