How the Inside effects the outside
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| What are the 3 types of rocks? | -Igneous, Sedementry, and Metemorphic. |
| What are the 2 types of igneous rocks? Discribe them. | Intrusive- light colored, cools slowly in earth, big crystals. Ex: GranitExtrusive-dark colored, cools fast, small crystals. Example: Lava Rock Magma---> cools & hardens |
| How are sedimentry rocks made? | Compacting and cementing. |
| What are the 2 types of metimorphic rocks? Discribe them. | Foliated: Folds. Bands, 2 colors that alternateUnfoliated: No folds. All one color.Sedimentry+Igneous rocks-->heated and crushed |
| Layers | Atmosphere, Crust, Mantal, Outter Core, Innercore. |
| Discribe the Atmosphere. | A layer of gas. |
| Discribe the Crust. | A rocky outer layer, much of it is silicates, 2 types: continental and oceanic, very thin. |
| Discribe the Mantal. | A layer of hot, solid rock, extends about 2,850 km. beneeth the crust, thick, made of mainly silicates, 3 parts: Lithosphere, Mesophere, and Atmosphere. |
| Discribe the Outter core. | Middle is liquid, creates earth's magnetic feild, mealted metal. |
| Discribe the Innercore. | High pressure(about 3.6), 1 million more times than earth's pressure, the temperture is 5,500 degrese celcius. |
| What is a Chemical Reation? | 1 or more compounds are formed from atoms rearragnging.Equation: Reactant+Reactant= Product. |
| What are the 4 types of Chemical Reactions? | Sythesis, Decomposition, Double Replacment, and Single Replacement. |
| What to remember... | -read right to left-"--->" means to produce-"+" CAN also mean "and"-Obay the rule, "Nother is created or distroied." |
| Plate Techtonics | -Makes up the crust of the earth.-There is a "pressure point" that causes them to move-They are what create earthquakes. |
| Magnetism | -Helps with gravity-Caused by the magma in the the outter core of the earth |
| Seismic Waves | -Used unerwater-Waves an earthquake causes |
| Epicenter | The point where and earthquake was started from |
| What are the 2 types of waves in a seismometer? | P waves and S waves |
| Lag time | the distance a seismometer is located from the epicenter |
| Crest | The top of the wave |
| Trough | The bottom of the wave |
| Amplitude | The highest point from the middle of the reading |
| Frequency | How often a wave passes a point |
| What is the wave speed equation? | Speed= Wavelength X Frequencyv=hXf |
| What is a P wave? | First and fastest |
| What is a S wave? | Second and slower |
| What is Sythesis? | - 2 or more compounds combine. Ex; A+B--> AB |
| What is Decomposition? | More than 2 elements break apart. Ex; AB--> A+B |
| What is Double Replacment? | 2 chemicals rearrange. Ex; AB+CD--> AC+ BD |
| What is Single Replacment? | A compound and an element rearrange.Ex; AB+C--> AC+B |
