Global Warming The gradual increase in the temperature of the Earth’s atmosphere
Greenhouse Gases Gases in the atmosphere that absorb heat
Greenhouse Effect The trapping of heat inside the earth’s atmosphere near Earth’s surface making the world warmer
Carbon Dioxide; CO2 One of the main greenhouse gases, it is released from the burning of fossil fuels.
Methane; CH4 One of the main greenhouse gases
Livestock Creates methane (CH4)
Plants Absorb carbon dioxide (CO2)
Releases additional carbon dioxide into the atmosphere Burning fossil fuels
Fossil fuels Oil, Gas, Diesel, Natural Gas (Petroleum) - nonrenewable
Weather The conditions of the atmosphere at any given time
Drought No rain in area for a long time
Ocean acidification The ocean getting more acid with carbonic acid (from CO2)
Sea level rise Oceans getting deeper, moving up on land; from ice melting
Renewable energy Energy produce from things that won't run out. Ex: solar, wind, geothermal, biomass
Emissions Being released (emitted) into the world
