Limiting Factor Something in an ecosystem or environment that may keep a population from growing (food, living space, water)
Carrying Capacity Maximum (most) number of individuals for a particular species that the environment can “carry” or sustain
Predator Animal that hunts other animals for food.
Prey animals hunted and eaten.
Organism a living thing
Producer Organisms that make their own food.
Consumer Organisms that eat other organisms.
decomposer An organisms that breaks down dead matter.
species A groups of similar organisms that can reproduce.
population all the members of one species that live in an area.
community all the living organisms that live and interact in the same habitat.
habitat The place where an organism lives.
Biome A large area characterized by its vegetation, soil, climate, and wildlife.
Aquatic Ecosystem Ecosystem found in and around a body of water
Terrestrial Ecosystem a land-based community
food chain one path of energy transfer.
Food Web It shows multiple paths of energy transfer.
Biotic Living, or from a living organism.
Abiotic Never living or never will be living.
