| Tropism | The response of a plant toward or away from a stimulus |
| Hormone | The chemical product of an endocrine gland that affects growth and development |
| Photoperiodism | A plant's response to seasonal changes in the length of night and day |
| Critical Night Length | The number of hours of darkness that determines whether or not a plant will flower |
| Dormancy | A period of time when an organism's growth or activity stops |
| Three stimuli that produce plant responses | Touch, gravity, and development are 3 important stimuli that trigger growth responses in plants |
| Examples of both Positive and Negative tropisms | When a plant tilts toward the sun, that is a positive tropism. When plants experience gravity, they resist and grow upward still, a negative tropism |
| What triggers a plant to flower | The amount of darkness a plant receives Determines the time of flowering in many plants |
| The reason why dormancy is important | Dormancy helps plants survive freezing temperatures and the lack of liquid water |
