Let-down reflex You can feel the milk coming
Feeding-readiness cues Early signs of hunger: - sucking or mouthing motions - hand-to-mouth or hand-to-hand movements - rooting reflex
Latch Defined as placement of the infant’s mouth over the nipple, areola, & breast, & making a seal between the mouth & breast to create adequate suction for milk removal
Preventing nipple trauma Break the suction before taking baby off the breast
Care of mom Healthy, well-balanced diet, rest, depends on meds, depends on vaccinations, but no live ones during pregnancy, soap can have drying effect, & breast creams can block ducts; can breastfeed with HEALED piercings
