mono- one. An example is monocyte or unicycle
bi- two. An example is Bilateral.
Tri- three. An example is tricycle.
Ab- away. An example is abduct.
Ecto- , exo- Outside. An example is exoskeleton.
Endo- Inside or in. An example is endocrine
Epi- Upon. An example is epididymis
Inter- Between. An example is intercoastal
Anterior or ventral The front; the word ventral means stomach. An example is the breastbone is anterior to the spine.
Posterior or dorsal The back; on its back. An example is the triceps are posterior to the biceps brachii.
Superior Above. An example is the eyes are superior to the nose.
Inferior Below. An example is the foot is inferior to the head.
Lateral Out to the side. An example is the ears are lateral to the nose
Proximal Closer to the center. An example is the shoulder is proximal to the elbow.
Ambi- both or around. An example is ambition.
Dys- Ill or bad. An example is dyslexic.
Eu- Good or well. An example is euphoria.
Homo- Same. An example is homeostasis
Iso- Equal or the same. An example is isogenous.
Mal- Bad or Ill. An example is Malfunction.
-algia Pain. An example is Myalgia.
-emia Blood condition. An example is leukemia.
-itis inflammation. An example is arthritis.
-lysis Loosen or break down. An example is hemoysis.
-opathy disease. An example is myopathy.
-pnea Breath or respiration. An example is dyspnea.
-centesis Puncture. An example is amniocentesis.
-ectomy Removal. An example is vasectomy.
-ostomy Creation or new opening. An example is colostomy.
-otomy Incision. An example is hysterotomy.
-orrhaphy Suture. An example is herniorrhaphy.
-opexy Surgical fixation. An example is retinopexy.
-oplasty Reconstruction. An example is rhinoplasty.
