Continental Shelf | The continental shelf is the gently sloping, submerged portion of a continent that expands from the shoreline to a marked increase in the slope called the continental slope. |
Continental slope | The continental slope is the steeply inclined transition zone between the continental shelf and the deep ocean floor. |
Convergent Plate boundary | A convergent plate boundary is a tectonic boundary where two lithospheric plates are moving toward each other. |
Divergent plate boundary | A divergent plate boundary is a tectonic boundary where two lithospheric plates are moving away from each other. |
Mid- Ocean Ridge | A mid-ocean ridge is an underwater mountain range that runs through the center of many ocean basins. Mid-ocean Ridges are formed by divergent plate boundaries. |
Ocean Trench | An ocean trench is a long, narrow, and extremely deep depression on the ocean floor. Ocean Trenches are formed at convergent plate boundaries. |
ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) | An ROV is a remotely operated underwater vehicle that is used for exploring and studying the ocean depths. |
Seamount | A seamount is a submerged mountain rising from the ocean floor that does not reach the surface of the water. |
