We don’t want to have a full bladder; monitor output by placing a hat in the toilet

Constipation is common during pregnancy, so not the biggest deal if mom doesn’t have a bowel movement before D/C; routine BM depends on mom; vaginal birth - D/C’d in 48 hrs, c-section - D/C’d in 72 hrs

Vaginal discharge; 1) rubra -> 2) serosa -> 3) alba (if the color order goes backward before 6 weeks -> could indicate hemorrhage or infection; dark red is good, bright red indicates fresh blood; saturation of a pad in 1 hr could also indicate hemorrhage

REEDA: redness, edema, echomosis, drainage, approximation

DVT assessment: pain, color, swelling, heat

Postpartum blues - lasts 2 weeks Postpartum depression - lasts more than 2 weeks
