QuestionAnswer
Population Ecology The study of how populations grow and the factors that regulate size.
Population density The number of individuals of a species within a given area unit.
Dispersion pattern Refers to the way that the individuals are spaced within their area.
Clumped Pattern Is a dispersion pattern where the individuals are in seperate patches.
Uniform Pattern Is a dispersion pattern where the individuals are spaced evenly.
Random Pattern Is a dispersion pattern where the individuals are spaced randomly.
Life table A table on which the percentage of total lifespan is plotted versus the percentage of the population that survives to that age.
Survivorship Curves The lines which are plotted on a life table.
Intristic Rate of Increase The maximum speed that members of a population can reproduce.
Logistic Growth Model A description of an idealized growth model that is slowed by limiting factors as the size increases.
Carrying Capacity Is the maximum number of a certain species a specific environment can support.
Life history The series of events from an organisms birth to its death.
R-selection Unpredictable environments.
Sustainable Resource management Harvesting crops without damaging the source.
Maximum sustained yield Harvesting should be done at this level to allow continued harvests.
Age structure The different amounts of different aged people in a population.
