Editorial and Digital Terms

TermDefinitionUse Case
Video recording kit Kit sent to remote speakers - mic, ring light, webcam, return label Used when recording video, should be sent to the speaker 1-2 weeks ahead of scheduled recording. Includes a return label for speaker to send back after use.
Routing Moving material through the content development process Used for all content. At CPG, managed by Editorial across departments.
Landing page The web page you "land" after clicking on an ad or a link that are designed to take an action. This is different than a webpage (homepage) in that it is a stand-alone webpage. Should be considered in the overall design of the web page & content.
Storyboard Visual plan for a video, showing scene breakdowns and transitions mapped to the script, as well as camera direction or additional information to help define the visuals. This will look/feel different between speaker videos, 3D and 2D animations. Made from outline, created and edited by internal + client before recording/video creation starts. Questions and important content/decisions are worked out here to avoid complicated edits. Submitted to MRC.
Readback Reading back word-for-word/image-for-image the formatted material against an original source OR vs previous file version to ensure no additional changes were made during revision stage of project. Examples: PPT routing after initial format; All routing of DCS materials. Readback DOES NOT include proofing, copy editing, styling, check corrections or any other proofing steps, but can be done in combination with these if indicated by Editorial.
Render To render is to save a video or animation from editing software into a viewable format (typically MP4). This often includes complex computations from the computer to create the final real-time video, which can take some time. When the video is ready for review, it needs to be rendered first and uploaded for sharing. Final Render is sent to client at the end of the project. For different videos, render time may vary widely. Could take up to a few days!
Check Corrections (Cx) Checking that changes from a previous round of review were incorporated All materials routed
SEO Search Engine Optimization - the process of increasing visibilty in search engines such as Google, Bing, Edge, etc. Done after site goes live.
Interstitial A web page displayed before or after an expected content page, often to display advertising or for regulatory reasons. Example: to confirm the user's age (prior to showing age-restricted material) or obtain consent to store cookies, or to acknowledge that a link is taking you to a different site.
Egregious Error Read Minimal or no styling based on direction from Editor who completes an Egregious Error Check List when routing. Example: Ad board on a short timeline where major styling and proofing are not critical or cannot be done within the time frame.
Analytics & Metrics A- General term for the collection of data around a website - clicks, views, bounce rate, demographics, etc. M - Often compiled to tell a story about the users of a site, and how to optimize the site to attract and retain engaged users. Plan from the start, execute after site is live. Talk to the client early about metrics to be sure we collect the information they want, and agree on how often reporting will be given, and how much analysis they want us to handle for them.
