TermDefinition
alleles alternative versions of a gene
artificial selection selection by humans for breeding of useful traits from the natural variation among different organisms; selective breeding
Chromosomes a threadlike structure made of DNA found in the nucleus of a cell
Dominant a trait that covers over another form of that trait.
Embryos organisms at early stages of development
Evolution change in the genetics of an organism over time.
genes a sequence of DNA on a chromosome
Genome a full set of inheritable chromosomes
Mutation a change or error in a gene
natural selection process in which individuals that have traits that are beneficial in the environment tend to survive and reproduce more successfully.
Recessive a trait that is covered up by another form of that trait and seems to disappear.
Traits a characteristic that an organism can pass on to its offspring through its genes.
