| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Protagonist | The character around who the story revolves. Often known as the main character or hero. The audience is meant to identify most strongly with this character. |
| Antagonist | The cause of conflict with the protagonist. It doesn't always have to be a person, also known as the villain. |
| Minor characters | Less important characters who might help us learn more about events or the main character. |
| Character traits | Personality traits that a character shows. |
| Round | Well-developed with many character traits. |
| Flat | Characters who are not well-developed. They have few character traits and are usually minor characters, |
| Dynamic | A character who encounters conflict and who changes because of it. The changes are usually in personality or attitude. |
| Static | A character who does not change during the story. These characters are consistent from beginning to end. |
