Scientific Method
| Term | Definition |

| Scientific Method | the process scientists use to solve problems and answer questions |
| observation | using your 5 senses to describe the world around you |
| inference | a possible explanation to your observations |
| hypothesis | a possible answer to the question you are testing (predicting what will happen in the experiment) |
| Experiment | a series of steps (procedure) you use to test your hypothesis |
| Independent Variable | The one factor you change in an experiment |
| Dependent Variable | The factor that changes as a result of the independent variable (what you are measuring) |
| Control variables | All the factors you keep the same in an experiment |
| Data | The observations and measurements you collect from an experiment |
| Conclusion | A summary of your findings (what you learned from the experiment) |
| Qualitative Observation | An observation made using one or more of your five senses |
| Quantitative Observation | An observation made using counting or measurements |
