What does the triangle (traffic yield sign thingy) mean? (HHPS) The border that looks like a traffic yield sign means that the container is dangerous
What the octagon (traffic stop sign) mean? (HHPS) The border that looks like a traffic stop sign means that the contents of the container are dangerous
What does the explosive symbol mean? (HHPS) This symbol means that that the container can explode. If it is punctured or heated, pieces can cause serious injuries, especially to the eyes. Examples: Spray Paint and Hair Spray, Cooking Spray
What does the corrosive symbol mean? (HHPS) This symbol means that the product inside the container will burn the throat or stomach if swallowed and will burn skin or eyes on contact. Examples: Oven cleaners, drain cleaners, toilet cleaners
What does the flammable symbol mean? (HHPS) This symbol means that the product will catch on fire easily if it is near sparks, flames, or even heat. Examples: Alcohol. Nail Polish, Rubbing Alcohol, Gasoline, etc
What does the poisonous symbol mean? (HHPS) This symbol means that the product will cause illness or death if you eat or drink it. For some products, just smelling or licking them is enough to cause serious harm. Examples: Furniture Polish, Charcoal lighter, kerosene, etc
What does the exploding bomb symbol mean? (WHMIS) Self-reactive substances which pose reactivity hazards or may explode Examples: Organic peroxides,
What does the flame symbol mean? (WHMIS) Flammable materials or substances liable to self ignite when exposed to water or air (pyrophoric), or which emit flammable gas. Examples: Propane, Gasoline, Paint thinner
What does the exclamation mark mean? (WHMIS) An immediate skin, eye or respiratory tract irritant, or narcotic. Examples: CFCs, Latex Gloves, Allergens, Detergents
What does the skull and crossbones mean? (WHMIS) Substances, such as poisons and highly concentrated acids, which have an immediate and severe toxic effect (acute toxicity). Examples: Rat poison, Carbon Monoxide
What does the corrosion symbol mean? (WHMIS) Products which can corrode metal surfaces or cause burns to the skin Examples: hydrochloric acid, nitric acid, and sulfuric acid, sodium hydroxide
What does the health hazard symbol mean? (WHMIS) A cancer-causing agent (carcinogen) or substance with respiratory, reproductive or organ toxicity that causes damage over time (a chronic, or long-term, health hazard). Examples: Tobacco, Asbestos, Plastics, (Pthalates, BP As)
What does the gas cylinder symbol mean? (WHMIS) Could explode if dropped or heated Examples: Oxygen bottles, aerosol spray cans, liquid nitrogen
What does the flame over circles symbol mean? (WHMIS) By releasing oxygen, can cause a flammable material to burn more easily. Examples: Hydrogen Peroxide, Bleach
What does the biohazardous infectious materials symbol mean? (WHMIS) signifies that the material contains organisms harmful to our health by causing disease or other serious illnesses. Examples: These organisms include bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites.
What does the environmental hazard symbol mean? (WHMIS) May cause damage to the aquatic environment Examples: Plastic, Burning fossil fuels, pesticides, toxic waste
