Secondary components which are Extractivies can consist of what? consist of oils and resins
Heartwood is composed of what type of cells? what is the main purpose? and it is not used for? composed of dead cells,not used for conduction and the main purpose is for storage and support
Sapwood. What type of cells is it made up of? and what is the purpose of it? is made up of live cells and is used for conduction
Early wood (springwood) is produced when during the growing season. what does early wood look like? produced early in growing season and it is lighter in colour then latewood
Latewood (summerwood) is produced when in the growing season and what does it look like? Produced later in growing season and is darker in bands
Rays are for what type of transport within a stem? what do they look like? for lateral transport within stem and are going across growth rings
Cross section(surface of wood) is what? cut across the board
Radial Face(surface of wood) is a face thats closely parallel to what? closely parallel to a ray
Tangential Faace(surface of wood) is approximately at what angle to a ray? right angles to a ray
Structure of Coniferous Woods-Most cells within this type of wood are what kind of cells? (they allow water to move up) Most cells are trachieds(allow water to move up)
