| Term | Definition |

| Water Cycle | The continuous movement of water within the Earth and the atmosphere. |
| Evaporate | To change from a liquid or solid state into vapor |
| Condensation | The process by which water vapor in the air is changed into liquid water. |
| Runoff | Precipitation that doesn't soak into the soil but instead moves on the Earth's surface toward streams |
| Meteorologist | An expert in or student of meteorology; a weather forcaster |
| Cirrus | A thin white cloud usually of tiny ice crystals formed at altitudes about 20,000 to 40,000 feet |
| Stratus | A low cloud form extending over a large area at altitudes of usually 2000 to 7000 feet |
| Nimbus | A large gray rain cloud |
| Cumulus | Detached, individual, cauliflower shaped clouds usually spotted in fair weather conditions |
| Air Mass | A large body of air with generally uniform temperature and humidity |
| Weather | The state of the air and atmosphere at a particular time and place Sunshine, rain, snow, wind, storms, etc |
| Climate | The long term pattern of weather in a particular area |
| Forecast | Predict or estimate (a future event, trend, weather) |
| Temperature | The measure of hotness or coldness expressed in terms of any several scales, including Fahrenheit and Celsius |
| Front | A weather system that is a boundary separating two different types of air |
| Humidity | The amount of water vapor in the air |
| High Pressure System | Something having more air pressure the its surrounding |
| Low Pressure System | Lower pressure at its center than the areas around it |
| Storms | A disturbance of the atmosphere marked by wind and usually by rain, snow, hail, sleet, or thunder and lighting |
| Precipitation | Any liquid or frozen water that forms in the atmosphere and falls back to earth |
| Tornado | A violently rotating column of air touching the ground, usually attached to the base of a thunderstorm |
| Thunderstorm | A rain-bearing cloud that also produces at lighting |
| Hurricane | A tropical storm with winds that have reached a constant speed of 74 mph or more |
| Flood | An overflow of water onto normally dry land |
| Winter Storms | When there is heavy rain and the temp. is low enough that the rain turns to ice or forms as sleet or snow |
| Cumulonimbus Clouds | Menacing looking muti-level clouds,extending high in the sky into towers or plumes |
