Matter Matters

All the terms we learn in uinit 1 science

TermDefinition
Matter Anything that has mass and takes up space
Solid one of the states of matter: always keeps its shape
Liquid one of the states of matter: takes the shape of its container
Gas one of the states of matter: takes the shape of its container
Chemical Change forms a new substance when it changes
Physical change gives a new appearance, forms mixtures but does not change any chemicals or form new substances
Quantitative a description based on numbers
Qualitative a description based of somethings properties or appearance
Water Cycle the cycle that ensures that there will always be the same amount of water on the earth
Evaporation the process of liquid turning into gas
Transpiration the water from the soil goes up the plant and out the leaves then evaporates- basically another way that makes evaporation occur
Condensation the process of water vapor rising in the air
Precipitation the state of which water comes back to earth by rainfall, snow, hail etc.
Runoff the water that comes from precipitation and/or the waterr that flow in bodies of water
Water Vapor the gas state of water- made by boiling water at 212 f
Humidity how much water that is in the air
Mixture a physical change- made by mixing two items but doesn't form a chemical change
Collection The place where rain water collects
