| moon phase | A moon phase is the shape of moon's sunlit portion as seen from Earth |

| penumbra | the partially shaded outer region of the shadow cast by an opaque object. |
| umbra | the fully shaded inner region of a shadow cast by an opaque object. |
| solar eclipse | A solar eclipse happens when, at just the right moment, the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth. |
| tides | the rise and fall of the sea that happens twice every day: |
| lunar eclipse | lunar eclipse is an astronomical event that occurs when the Moon moves into the Earth's shadow, causing the Moon to be darkened |

| spring tide | a tide just after a new or full moon, when there is the greatest difference between high and low water. |
| neap tide | a tide just after the first or third quarters of the moon when there is least difference between high and low water. |
