| Quantitative Observation | Descriptions that do use numbers. Numbers of items, measurements. |
| Inference | Making a judgment about an observation based on previous knowledge or experience. |
| Prediction | A guess about the future based on evidence or experience. |
| Testable Question | Question that can be answered with an experiment. Written using the format - How does IV affect DV? |
| Hypothesis | Explanation of observations or answer to a testable question. Written using the format - If IV, then DV. |
| Procedure | Set of steps written precisely so someone else can do the experiment the same way. Instructions or directions. |
| Constants | Things in an experiment that must remain unchanged. |
| Multiple Trials | Doing each part of the experiment more than once. |
| Materials | Everything you use during an experiment. Ingredient and equipment list. |
| Variables | Things that can change in an experiment or different categories in an experiment. |
