Scientific Method

| observation | using your senses to gather information or data about the world around you |
| hypothesis | A testable prediction or educated guess that is based on prior knowledge and observations |
| variable | Any factor, condition, or element in an experiment that can be changed, measured, or controlled |
| independent variable | variable that is deliberately manipulated or changed in an experiment to see its effect on the dependent variable |
| dependent variable | variable that is measured or observed in response to changes in the independent variable; it depends on the independent variable. |
| control group | group in an experiment that is kept unchanged or used as a baseline for comparison to the experimental group |
| scientific method | A systematic approach to problem-solving and inquiry that involves making observations, forming hypotheses, conducting experiments, and drawing conclusions |
| experimental group | The group in an experiment where the independent variable is manipulated or changed to test its effect on the dependent variable. |
| data | Information collected or observed during an experiment; it can be in the form of numbers, measurements, or descriptions |
| conclusion | A statement that summarizes the results of an experiment and explains whether the hypothesis was supported or not. |
| experiment | A carefully designed and controlled test or investigation used to gather data and test hypotheses. |
