Earth Gravity and Space
| Term | Definition |

| shadow | The darkest area created by an object that stops light |
| orbit | the path an object follows around another object |
| rotation | when a planet or moon travels around the body it is orbiting one time (for Earth that is 24 hours) |
| axis | an invisible line around which an object rotates or spins |
| revolution | when a planet or moon travels around the body it is orbiting one time (for Earth that is 365 days or a year) |
| sun | a star around which Earth and other planets in our solar system revolve. It furnishes heat, light, and energy |
| universe | everything that exist including all matter and energy, the planets, stars, galaxies, and all contents of space |
| galaxy | a large group of stars and planets held together by gravity. |
| solar system | the sun and everything that orbits or travels around the sun. |
| planet | a large round object in space that Does Not give off light and that orbits a star |
| star | a ball of burning gas in space that gives off light |
