| Term | Definition |

| Point Source Pollution | The source of the pollution can be traced back to a single place. Example: sludge coming out of an industrial pipe into the river |
| Non Point Source Pollution | The source of the pollution isn't from one single place. Example: runoff from the highway coming from automobiles |
| Runoff | Excess water that moves across land from higher points to lower points due to the force of gravity. |
| Pollutant | any harmful substance that has negative effects on humans, animals or plants. |
| wastewater | water that drains away from homes, schools, businesses or factories, that may contain harmful pollutants like sewage or chemicals. |
